Digital Biomarkers of Parkinson’s Disease

Digital Biomarkers using devices such as wearables, phones, and smartwatches are providing opportunities to monitor the disease, treatment effects, and the daily lived experience of disease.

I had an interesting conversation with a researcher at the Institute of Neurology- UCL that has made think about this topic these days.

Its use as both digital endpoints for clinical trials and also utilizing them to understand Prodromal PD and Manifest PD interest me personally as very little of this is done in Africa.

I guess the validation of the various complex algorithms have been a major stumbling block and the fact that the disease affects individual differently.

There appears to be a gap between model development and their clinical applications. Very few of these validated models for machine learning in PD are tested on larger datasets.

I have been reading with interest The Parkinson’s Disease Digital Biomarker (PDDB) DREAM Challenge (Parkinsons Disease Digital Biomarker DREAM Challenge)

Don’t know if anyone in this community has any experience or can link us to companies that might want to explore that with patients from our genetic study.
