Hi everyone! I want to access genotypes from Native American populations in order to perform PCA and Admixture analysis. For this, I need unidentified raw individual level data.
Could you share your experience In how to request the data and make the first approach to the principal investigator that has the data?
What do you think are the minimum requirements to receive this data? Size and security wise.
Thanks!

Where are the data housed? Often there is some sort of data use agreement that will need to be put in place.

@paularp, sometimes the best bet for information is email the first authors of publications that have used the data you would like to use or something similar. Most are responsive.

Think these are good suggestions – another thought is if the authors’ publishing on data they themselves did not collect, they had to get it somehow, so perhaps they would have insight into that process?

Also, most journal now require a statement on data access - so that things can be a bit more transparent
