The aforementioned study by Bruce et al studied the association between football play and Parkinson disease in the Fox Insight sample. However, Annie is interested in exploring the association between soccer play and heading and how this head trauma might be related to Parkinson disease outcomes.
This post also comes in response to the Mentorship and Training task force with @psaffie@fbbriggs@jgottesman@gginnan. We are looking for potential individuals who might be interested in collaborating on this project as well as mentoring (e.g., those experienced using Fox Insight, merging data sets, conducting statistical analyses etc).
Please feel free to reply here to let us know your interest!
Hi @malosco, your post caught my attention, as it’s a nice intersection of a variety of my skills/interests. I studied traumatic brain injury in graduate school, have worked with Fox Insight, and feel like all I do is merge datasets. Happy to help in any way I can!
I’m attaching a report I created that visualizes the Fox Insight surveys historically, which may be helpful for a student getting familiar with FI: Fox Insight Survey Timeline
I wanted to share an update with the community on how the Mentorship and Training Task Force is helping to train the next generation scientists!
@AnnaliseMiner has joined our community as a second year PhD student in my lab who is interested in study the long-term effects of repetitive TBIs.
We are excited to collaborate with @mattk on a project that will leverage data from Fox insight to study the association between head trauma from soccer play and Parkinson disease. Our first meeting is this Friday at 1 PM EST. If anyone is interested in contributing to the project, let us know.
Otherwise, we will keep you posted as we progress forward.
Hi @malosco, I’m interested in collaborating with this project. I recently completed my Graduate thesis using Fox insight sample and posted preprint, you can check it here: Nonclinical Preventive Measures of Parkinson's Disease (PD): Identifying Key Lifestyle, Demographic, and Environmental Factors | Research Square . I was particularly intrigued because head injury was one of the independent variables in my analysis. I’m good with literature review and data analysis. Please let me know if you’re still accepting the collaborators for this study. I’d be happy to assist the team in anyway I can. Thank you!
Hi @namburin, it is great to meet you! It would be awesome to collaborate. Please email me (malosco@bu.edu) and Ill connect the full group together. Look forward to it!
@fbbriggs Absolutely! We would love any insights you could give into the project. If you send me an email (aeminer@bu.edu) I will add you to our collaboration group. We are about to start scheduling our next group meeting so great timing!
