Hello, DCoP members! This is our quarterly topic where you all can share the work you’ve been doing, including papers or pre-prints you’ve written or been involved with, or talks you’ve given. Please use this thread to add links to any relevant articles that you have written recently, or to link to slides and/or recordings of your conference presentations.
We love hearing what you’re working on, and sharing your projects can be a great way to make connections or foster new collaborations.
Additionally, we encourage you to share what funding you are applying for and/or what grant programs you are aware of which will be opening/closing soon.
Really looking forward to seeing your work and hearing your input!
It was a huge honor to be invited to this Symposium. They invited Nacho, but Nacho already had other meetings to go and he recommended me. Now I have to do my best to get Nacho level and avoid they think that I am some kind of downgrade.
PS: Maybe I will need to summon the GP2 Talk Thiago
Reposting the AMP-PDRD RFA which @vdardov just shared!
The FNIH has issued a request for applications (RFA) for the Accelerating Medicines Partnership® in Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders (AMP® PDRD). If you are a clinical investigator with established study cohorts in Parkinson’s disease, other alpha-synucleinopathies (including Lewy body dementia, multiple system atrophy, or REM sleep behavior disorder), or atypical parkinsonian syndromes, such as progressive supranuclear palsy, AMP PDRD invites you to apply. Investigators have the opportunity to perform biomarker analyses, fully funded by the AMP PDRD consortium, at no cost to the investigator.
everyone, one of our very own, the wonderful @psaffie is competing for an award and we need to show support so she can win!!! she needs as many people as possible to leave comments on her PhD thesis video so please check it out, leave your comments, and share it with people you know so it can increase her chances in winning here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yvw-62yd5WI&list=PLmDH7fvu4RYEL4bT5dULj4NRBKmAQRrZb&index=4
The organizers (I had more contact with Dr. David Standaert and Joe Grundle) did an awesome job, and the faculty team included some of the biggest names in the field and me, a 7-day-old Research Associate. It was an incredible honor to be invited and placed at their level, even if it was only for 30 minutes. I kept a copy of the program because that symposium has been one of my professional highlights so far.
Regarding my talk, people told me that my presentations are very accessible for those outside the field, with a good pace, and that the jokes I make during the talk help keep the audience engaged. I don’t know if that’s true (if it isn’t, I’m not sure I want to know the truth ).
A new call for papers has arrived! It’s a special issue from Alzheimer’s & Dementia journal focused on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias research in South Asia. Just a quick reminder that Parkinson’s disease dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and the prodromal stages for these dementias are considered within the Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias umbrella. So if you, or someone you know have a paper from South Asia, consider submitting to get our Lewy body dementia field represented!
It was a fun chat if you’re looking for something to listen to during a lunch break
ALSOOOOO
We have a fresh new paper out! We looked into sex differences for progression (change in symptom presence) prior to dementia onset in people with Lewy body pathology vs pure Alzheimer’s pathology in the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center dataset. Throwing in the figure for y’all to interpret. Briefly, it looks like cognitive impairment can worsen quickly for females than males with Lewy body path in the pre-dementia phase. Parkinsonism and cognitive fluctuation presence can help differentiate males with Lewy body path from Alzheimer’s path. Clinical features don’t do as well for females for differentiation though…
(Just a quick reminder that Lewy body dementia is an umbrella term for Parkinson’s disease dementia & dementia with Lewy bodies; so Parkinson’s disease is by default the prodromal phase for Lewy body dementia)
We have a review out on Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease as well! One of my fave collabofriends Paulina Gonzalez-Latapi thought of inviting me for the review and I got to loop in my awesome Uni of Colorado team + two wonderful trainees to put together a nice review comparing early onset Parkinson’s to the late onset Parkinson’s that most people are more familiar with. I’m biased of course but it’s a fun read
