Global Parkinson's Genetics Program (GP2)

HI @DCoP_Innovators !

Today I want to share my experience as a Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2) member. Our recent in person meeting was held in Copenhagen, and it is summarized formally and informally in this 2 links.

First of all I would like to point out that it’s not just another research initiative. GP2 stands out for me because it actively seeks to include groups like mine, which are traditionally underrepresented in genetics research. I am part of the LARGE-PD consortium (https://large-pd.org/) and currently doing a short training stay at NIH.

After this introduction, I would like to summarize ways to participate in Gp2.

Comprehensive Training Opportunities for Researchers

GP2 provides comprehensive training opportunities for researchers, I will summarize some of them:

  1. Online learning management system with 5 courses. (https://training.gp2.org/learn/my-learning) .
  2. Phd and master’s programs opportunities for underrepresented populations
  3. Workshops in bioinformatics hybrid and in-person
  4. Research projects and manuscript writing

Accessing GP2 Data through the AMP PD Platform

As a researcher, you can access GP2 data by applying for access to the Accelerating Medicines Partnership: Parkinson’s Disease (AMP PD) platform.

Tiered access is available, with Tier 1-level data accessible after completing an online registration form and verifying your email address, and Tier 2 data accessible after submitting a Data Use Agreement (DUA) which includes a signature from your Authorized Institutional Signatory, and a project proposal for analyzing the data.

Contributing Samples and Data to GP2

Researchers can participate in GP2 by contributing samples and data from around the world, specifically with the goal of including groups traditionally underrepresented in genetics research.

I hope you would find this interesting and spread out the voice. For more information, you could contact a Gp2 trainee representative according to the region of the world you are from.

For LATAM you can contact @paularp or me.

Thank you for this summary, Paula!
You summarized everything great!

Please also let us know if you have any further suggestions on training, or if you still have questions don’t hesitate to contact us.
Also, if you are from other regions, we can provide contact points in East Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.
