The second workshop of the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2)took place in Mexico. The first edition was in 2023, held as a basic-level workshop in Querétaro, Mexico
This year, in 2024, we expanded to two sessions: one basic and one intermediate. The topics covered in the basic workshop included an introduction to Parkinson’s genetics and the use of the Terra platform.
Terra is a cloud-based platform that assists researchers in consolidating data, conducting analyses, and visualization. During the workshop, we performed various analyses such as polygenic risk score calculations and genetic association analyses with clinical variables of interest.
The intermediate session delved into specific topics such as GWAS for disease progression and related models like Cox and Mixed Effect Models. We also received an introduction to Terra workflows, which enable parallel analyses and better resource utilization.
While this workshop was conducted in Spanish, resources are available for non-Spanish speakers as well.
A very similar workshop is available in this link.
If you live in a region requiring bioinformatics training for Parkinson’s research, you can reach out to the Training Network Working Group of GP2 with proposals for conducting a similar workshop. I’m also available to share my experience if you need it!
