Who will be heading out to Houston for the MDS PAS Congress in 2026???
I’ll be there and would love to meet up with any other peeps from the platform if you’re there!
I have a poster on environmental risk factors for Lewy body dementia considering sex-specific risk. Spoiler alert, we found not living in a suburb, decaffeinated drinks, welding/brazing/flame cutting metal, soldering, metal dust/fumes can increase LBD risk for both sexes. Moderate physical exercise can lower risk, particularly for males. So while metal exposure looks bad, I’m obviously not gonna turn my back on all as a heavy metal lover i made this meme for the poster
These results are fascinating! I’m particularly interested (alarmed?!) to see decaffeinated drinks there: does this suggest that caffeine is protective, or is the risk factor explicitly drinks that were caffeinated and underwent a decaffeination process?
Here I thought I was taking the healthy option by swapping one coffee a day to decaf
apparently, decaffeination process includes an organic solvent, and the amount left is minimal and shouldn’t be harmful. but the peeps in the survey are over the age of 60s so with how things were not regulated back then, who knows what ended up in their decaffeinated drinks. decaffeination also takes out other substances from drinks too, and those may be the beneficial stuff in addition to caffeine as well. something worth poking further i think! trying to get the paper published…
alright i’m due to get to Houston tomorrow if anyone will be there and wants a buddy, come find me! i’ll also have some stickers for our platform and i can stick it to your badge my poster will be in the guided poster tour, group 1 on Friday from 1 to 2:30, abstract number 48. otherwise, I’ll post my poster pic for you to check out afterwards! the paper is still under review… it’s been a long long time and i’m gonna be really sad if it gets rejected after so many months of waiting
Just a few peeps asked me to walk them through, otherwise most people checked it out quickly, smiled at me and moved along I had to specifically point out my meme to people so they don’t miss it, and everyone enjoyed that part hehe.
for sure! i typically check out posters in between sessions and not during poster times specifically, because i like going through without having to interact with people. when there are so many posters to check out, having someone explain their poster in detail may end up taking too much time as well.
