It’s June! Happy Pride Month everyone!

I was able to contribute to a couple papers concerning LGBTQIA+ community with Parkinson’s (PD) showing that compared to cisgender, straight people with PD, LGBTQIA+ community with PD experiences more discrimination while receiving healthcare and have a higher risk of dementia with this more discrimination contributing to the dementia risk. So if you’re a healthcare provider, your actions can put people with PD identifying as LGBTQIA+ at risk for dementia. Despite the LGBTQIA+ community being as excited about research as cisgender, straight people, they continue to get underrepresented in research and this limits our research findings. We come together from such different backgrounds to do research and we should advocate for all communities with PD to get represented in research too. Here are the links to the papers if anyone wants to read more, and I hope you consider the LGBTQIA+ community in your efforts moving forward! Also just a quick note that Fox Insight has data from the LGBTQIA+ community that you can use!!!
