My Favorite PD Congress Is WPC — And I’m Tired of Pretending It’s Not

To be fair, I have somewhat limited experience attending international conferences. But in my short career, the one that has stood out the most is the World Parkinson Congress (WPC).

I attended the last edition in Barcelona, and I was able to truly connect with the PD community — even with people from my own country whom I hadn’t had the opportunity to meet otherwise.

But what makes it so different?

WPC opens its doors to neuroscientists, clinical researchers, clinicians, rehabilitation specialists, nutritionists, people with Parkinson’s, and care partners.

As its website says, it is uplifting and inclusive.

If you’re not a clinician, like myself, it’s quite likely that you have limited contact with people living with PD. This is a unique opportunity to genuinely listen to where the community’s interests are headed, evaluate whether your research is addressing those needs, and explore new avenues you hadn’t considered before — simply by engaging in conversations where all voices are equally heard.

It’s also an incredible chance to observe PD and the PD community through fresh eyes. In addition to the usual plenary presentations, parallel talks, roundtables, poster tours, and controversy sessions, WPC offers Wellness Programs (Support Groups, Mindfulness, WPC Red Thread Project) and Creativity Programs (Music, Film, and Writing).

The 7th World Parkinson Congress (WPC 2026) is taking place in Phoenix, Arizona, from May 24–27, 2026!

Love this sentiment, @paularp! I’ve never been to WPC, but I make a habit of going to MJFF-sponsored events every year to do just that.

Sorting through rows of data with user_ids, writing code, or just day-to-day work, sometimes getting bogged down is unavoidable! I’ve found Parkinson’s IQ + You (a free educational series for patients + carepartners) events as well as the Run/Walk Fundraisers to be great. They’re also often looking for volunteers if folks want to get involved! I be at the one in Denver in a few months!

That sounds great! I see they’re having something on Hawaii, so I’ll definitely keep an eye open for that one. Thanks for sharing!
