New MJFF Task Forces Coming soon!

Hey @research_community!

We’ve been working with our champions program members (@DCoP_Innovators) to engage the broader community in projects that meet our shared goals of making it easier to work with PD data and are excited to announce them today.

Following last year’s collaboration which resulted in the generation of the Getting Started with PD Data guide, we have decided to establish new task forces with the following themes:

  • Data Modalities and Methodologies
  • Developing Visual Resources
  • Mentorship and Training
  • Networking and Outreach

In the coming weeks, task force leads (@fbbriggs, @hirotaka, @Vidash, @gdp22, @vdardov, @psaffie, @ehutchins) will be posting to provide background on these initiatives and to make an open call for community participation. The breadth, quality, and success of these projects depends on your participation and expertise.

We hope they will provide both the opportunity to contribute (e.g., in developing a visual resource) and to benefit (e.g., to receive mentorship opportunities) from being a member of this community.

If you are interested in joining a task force, please post a reply in the relevant thread(s). If you’re on the fence or have questions, we would encourage you to join the kickoff call or reach out with any questions.

If there are other task forces you are interested in leading, have a suggestion for a collaborator who you think would be a good fit for one of these, or want to find colleagues to join your work, please let us know – we’d love to support those efforts as best we can.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for kickoff posts!

Hi Greg,

Thanks for this email. Very excited to join the community.

I have a colleague who is also a co-investigator of a PPMI project. He is interested in joining the data community of practice. Could you please remind me how to register?

Thanks a lot!

We’re excited to have officially kicked off this year’s four new task forces! Thank you to the task force leads and members for your enthusiasm and effort in helping address some of the needs of not only our community of practice, but the broader Parkinson’s Disease research community as well.

You can learn more about each task force and follow along with their progress by visiting their respective threads:

If you or your colleagues have other questions, interests, or needs regarding the access, use, and analyses of Parkinson’s Disease data, we encourage you to post your question in any of the relevant categories:

Hi Greg,

Are there task forces around themes like Latino health and advocacy?

Also I have a draft image for a way to demonstrate a little of my research findings that I would love feedback on and can share here. Also I have a Spanish version of my paper too. I want to start circulating but I am nervous about sharing it publicly. The journal said I could share but they have not responded to my request that they publish it with a Spanish translation. I should suggest it as an official amendment. I mean that is part of the reason research isn’t well read - because they need it it in Spanish… translation for translation is so important. Love to discuss these topics with you or anyone. I am assuming this is public message.

thanks Christine

Hi @ChristineJ, thanks for your message (also confirming that this is a public message)!

We currently do not have a task force dedicated to Latino health and advocacy. Could share more about the type of work you’re interested / involved in? We’d like to hear more so we can understand where to best direct your attention!

There also are a few ongoing discussions here on Discourse pertaining to your research interests (e.g., Self-reported ancestry in highly admixed populations like Latin Americans, X chromosome in Latin American populations) as well as an upcoming webinar (this Thursday!) on patient-centered research in the age of big data, from community and task force member @anajimenahdz from UNAM.

Thanks so much for your interest, @ChristineJ, it’s great to have you here!
